Christy Bussey
Christy Bussey has been a resident of Lake Cherokee since February 2019 and previously served on the board of directors for Cherokee Water Company. She and her husband Kelly, whose family has been a part of the lake since its beginning, have three wonderful children and one grandson and love spending their free time enjoying all the benefits of Lake Cherokee. Christy is currently executive vice president and Chief Risk Officer for a DeNovo bank in Houston that is in formation. Mrs. Bussey has 35+ years of experience in banking, including 30 years in management and in a variety of board roles across the industry. From 2020 through 2024, she served as the director of solutions and strategies for the Independent Bankers Association of Texas (IBAT), the largest state association dedicated exclusively to community bank advocacy. Previously, she served as executive vice president and chief credit officer for a 2.5B community bank in east Texas. In addition, Mrs. Bussey has been a compliance officer, a lender and has also led loan and credit operations throughout her years in the industry. Christy previously served as IBAT Leadership Division chair, as well as Leadership Division president and PAC chair of region 5 in East Texas. She is a member of the Texas Tech School of Banking advisory board and served on the IBAT Services board. Bussey has also volunteered with many local agencies. She earned a BBA degree from the University of Texas–Tyler and is a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at UPenn.
